The Sacral Chakra and Mediumship: Clairsentience, Energy Boundaries, and Is This Mine?
By Danielle Searancke, Founder of Spirit School Article adapted from a mini lesson taught inside the Spirit School Collective, Chakra Series Part 2
This is part two of a three part series on the lower chakras and what they ask us to heal on the path to becoming a clear channel. If you have not read part one on the root chakra yet, start there.
The sacral chakra is your first point of energy awareness. And if you are someone who feels everything, this is your home base.
The Prayer of the Sacral: Is This Mine?
If the root chakra asks you to belong, the sacral chakra asks you to discern.
The prayer of the sacral is three words: is this mine?
It sounds simple. It is not. Most empaths, healers, and developing mediums spend years absorbing other people's emotional experiences without realizing they are doing it. Anxiety that is not yours. Grief that does not belong to you. The heaviness you carry home after a reading that was actually theirs to keep.
When I ask "is this mine?" out loud, something releases. Just the act of bringing it into awareness is often enough to disengage from someone else's emotional field. I am not always going to know my boundaries until I am already in them. And honestly, your boundaries will keep changing as you change. That is not a failure, that is spiritual maturity.
There are seasons of life where I have to put up an out of office, close my DMs, and protect my capacity completely. That is honoring my energy. That is sacral chakra work.
How I Learned to Feel Spirit First
I will never start a reading until I sense them first.
This took years to develop and it started with a declaration: I need to feel you. That was the only thing I trusted in the beginning. A physical feeling. Not a thought, not an image, a feeling in my body.
I sat with my guides a couple of times a week asking that same question. How do I know you are here? I want to feel you. And slowly I became aware of a space on my back, between my shoulder blades, right where you would imagine wings coming out. It feels like the vibration of a doorbell. A bell ringing that I can feel but cannot touch.
At first I would question it every time. Is that you? Is that you? And then it started happening when I was not even looking for it. In the car. On a walk. And I would notice eagles. Hawks. And I started trusting it.
That is how belief becomes faith. Not through one dramatic experience but through years of small moments that stack up until you just know.
The Body Map: How Clairsentience Works in Practice
Over 13 years of readings, I have built an entire map of my body.
Everyone from mom's side of the family comes through on one side. Dad's side on the other. About 85 to 90 percent accurate. When my left arm goes numb, literally numb, that is spirit showing me stroke. When I feel like I am in trouble for no reason, I learned after dozens of readings that I am sitting with someone whose loved one took their own life. They feel the weight of what they did. As soon as I name it, it leaves me.
You cannot fake a feeling. That is why clairsentience is where I start. You can second guess an image. You can dismiss a thought. But a physical sensation in your body is hard to argue with.
The shadow side of clairsentience is that it is draining. It uses your emotional awareness as the instrument. I have known mediums who say they only work claircognizantly because it is cleaner. I understand that. But there is something about clairsentience that I cannot give up. When I feel spirit this way, it is like I touched heaven.
The Discernment Practice That Changes Everything
Here is the thing about being highly clairsentient with anxiety: you are going to spend a lot of time asking yourself whether what you are feeling is yours or theirs.
I have learned to ask that question constantly. And in a reading I do something that took me years to develop the trust for. I say out loud to spirit: the next 45 minutes are for you. I am going to trust that everything that comes through me is for them.
That declaration removes me. What comes through in those 45 minutes is not filtered through my anxiety or my preferences or my fears. It is just theirs.
But in the in-between times, the daily life times, I still have to be discerning. I still have to ask the question.
If you ever feel like spirit is far away, I want you to know something. The deficit is never with spirit. What happens is our awareness closes in, like a flashlight narrowing its beam. They are not further away. We are just less open.
One breath. Drop into your heart. Open your awareness like a peacock feather spreading wide. That is all it takes. I am trained to do that quickly now, but it is a practice anyone can learn.
This is part two of three. Part three covers the solar plexus, where confidence, authority, and your relationship to being seen in this work come to a head. Watch some insipration on the topic below…
